Kroener Ancestry, Stetten, Bavaria, Germany-near Karstadt from Baker Book at the Monroe County Historical Society

This is a portion of the book relating to Dominic Kroener Pg. 76

Our Kroener ancestry begins in Germany (ca.1650) in the village of Stetten, Karlstadt, Unterfranken District, Bavaria. This same area is where all of our Kroener’s resided until one of our ancestors immigrated to the United States in 1848. Stetten as it appears today, and the map on page K as to where Stetten is in relationship to the province in Germany.

(A note to the reader the page number that is listed after the event is either from baptism records for Catholic parish records or the Civil records. See for example #1472)

KROENER ANCESTRY p. 78 of Baker Book

The 1860 US Census for Monroe County, Ridgeville Twp. also shows a farm laborer living with them at age 36. He was Casper Ziegler also born in Bavaria. Dominic’s two children: Margaret age 3 and Michael age 1 born in Wisconsin. The 1870 US Census for the same Monroe County, Twp Ridgeville shows they are the 1st dwelling and 1st family. The family name is listed as Cahner and Dominic as Dick his age 52 and Catherine is age 49 both born in Bavaria and children Margaret age 14 and Michael age 12 are in school and are born in Wisconsin. There is no farm laborer listed. However their personal property value is $675.00 and real estate value is $1,000.00. There is an indication that Dominic and Katherine may have lived in Columbia County in 1850 Census for Wisconsin. They are listed as Graner. If this is correct as I believe then we can claim pioneer status for state of Wisconsin. More research is needed though. His wife Anna Katherine Schneider b.17 Mar 1824 (from Marriage record) and 28 Mar 1824 birth record and 29 Mar 1824 from (Baptismal record).
